Nam le's Fanfic reviews

Twilight Runway

This is one of stories that attracted me a lot from its very first beginning chapter. The author really created a dramatically fiction, and bring all the most romantic factors into Bella and Edward love story. As Twilight’s fan, I always want a happy ending for this couple; I am even not interested in any difficulties in their way to happiness. So definitely this is the story for me, true love comes unexpectedly. Along reading this fiction, sometimes I turned so mean by hating Jacob so much as he always is the one who interrupt Bella and Edward not only in the real movies but also most fan fictions. However, Bella character in the story seems to be a person who cannot hold a stable, strong relationship. She does not deserve Edward that much which is not true as the original fact. Well, this fiction did making me scream out loud by exciting then upset immediately, so it should get 4 out of 5.

I have tried so hard to find a good fanfic for “Paradise Kiss” but seems too difficult. However, “Details in the Fabric” may be counted as one of my rarely favorite stories. It almost keeps all the fact from the original version like Yukari and George love, even their separation. But this new ending is perfect, much better and completed compared to the sad anime’s. I am glad that they are engaged this time, Yukari and a butterfly ring in her happy day is such a beautiful image that I always dream of. But sadly, I never thought that George could use drug, so sad but it is much more interesting that the author has portrayed him like that. Just one more word for this fiction: Awesome!!!

This is the very first Harry Potter fanfiction that I have ever read, but maybe it also is the last one. As the original Harry Potter stories are awesome, it turned a legend fiction so it is difficult to find a good fanfiction that satisfy HP fan. However, this story really is a disaster to me as the author built up a nonsense plot. I only finished 2 first chapters and found out that I run out of patience to keep going. Therefore, I took this story as one example of unsuccessful effort in attracting readers. The appearance of new characters just made the story all mixed up.

James' Final Fanfic

My fan fiction is a crossover, a meeting of two of my favourite characters. Private eye Philip Marlowe (protagonist from most of Raymond Chandler's novels) is investigating the disappearance of a millionaire's daughter. The case leads him to cross paths with womanizer and unpublished poet, Henry Chinaski (literary alter-ego of Charles Bukowski, and protagonist of Bukowski's novels). The result follows...

Cold Dogs in the Courtyard

It was approaching 6.15pm, the sun was packing up for the day, but it wasn’t quite done yet. The afternoon had been long, hot and sticky. I’d been sitting in my Oldsmobile for over an hour, waiting for the poet-mailman, the hunchback of East Hollywood. I waited on the street outside his place. A desperate realtor would probably call it a gated apartment complex, but it was a burnt-out flea-bit hovel. Hell, I’d seen stray dogs with better accommodation than that.

I turned another cigarette into a pile of ash as I watched a bum shuffle out of a liquor store up the street. It wasn’t until the bum was fumbling with the latch on his satchel that I realised I’d found Chinaski. He slowly shuffled closer; something in his step told me he was already defeated. His US Postal Service shirt was glued to his torso with sweat, his chin told me that gardening shears were the closest thing he had to a razor, and the white knuckles around his brown paper bag gave away just how thirsty he was.

I watched him stroll into the courtyard, pace quickening, he wanted to open that bottle. A blonde girl, only eighteen or nineteen, sat in the courtyard, Chinaski spoke to her in passing. The girl went red in the cheeks, “Only you, Hank!” she managed before erupting in giddy laughter. Chinaski disappeared behind the door of the third apartment, I straightened myself up in the rearveiw mirror and went over my information again. Lucinda Rourke. Aged twenty-six. Last seen Sunday morning outside The Whiskey on Sunset Boulevard. Spotted with the writer three nights earlier in a dive at Rossmore and 3rd. She was a hooker, and not a cheap one. Now daddy was bankrolling her return to the family home, hoping she’d leave that business behind. No problem I’d said, if she’s still alive.

“Yeah?” He opened the door in just his shorts, there was already half a glass in his hand. Amber, scotch.

“You Chinaski?” I asked, eyeballing the glass, swallowing a mouthful of sand.

“Sometimes.” He stared hard. There was life in those eyes after all, something burning someplace deep. He wasn’t the defeated bum I’d taken him for. “You a cop?”

“Sometimes” I said. “I’m looking for a girl”

“Aren’t we all?” He made a sound that was half laugh and all cough.

“Lucinda Rourke? You seen her lately?”

“Lucy? Sure. Hell of a girl. You her boyfriend?” The corner of his mouth curled into a grin. It was harmless.

“Not quite, are you?”

“Only after a good day at the track” He drained his glass and shuffled through the filthy kitchen to pour another. I leant against the door frame, hoping for a portion of the bottle, but not wanting to touch anything from this kitchen.

“Anyway” he says “cut the bullshit will ya, I haven’t got all night.”

“When did you last see the Rourke girl?”

“Last Thursday night, we had a drink over at Kadies Bar and then spent the night here screwing and drinking. She was gone by the time I woke up Friday.”

“I hear her price tag’s a little steep, must’ve been some day at the track, huh?”

“Heh, I get special rates, Lucy has an appreciation for poetry. Among other things.”

“Yeah? Chinaski the poet huh, looks like that’s really paying off for ya”

“Well it sure pays better than the alternative” he shrugged.

“Which is?”

“Insanity” Chinaski’s eyes lit up as he said the word, and for a moment he was the hobo-savant people had been saying he was.

“So. Are you gonna invite me in or what?” I asked, thinking of the scotch.

“You’ve gotta be a private dick. What do you think you’re gonna find?”

“You’re smarter than you look” I said, ignoring the other thing.

“I damn-well better be.”

Chinaski didn’t seem like a threat. It takes a certain type, and he wasn’t it. He was a bum. Smart, but lazy and I didn’t believe the hype. He was incapable of murder the same way he was probably incapable of holding a job, it just wasn’t in him. He didn’t look like the type that’d completed anything, unless it involved a tumbler or a typewriter. I couldn’t see a motive, he wasn’t in love with her, she couldn’t have stolen from him, he had nothing. Chinaski also seemed to lack the sober forethought needed for a ransom job. I decided to cool off on my approach.

“Name’s Marlowe” I’d said, offering a handshake. He stood there with his drink staring at my hand like the concept was completely new to him. He smiled. I didn’t like it. “Alright.” I folded my arms across my chest “How long were you and the girl friendly?”

“Since around the end of February I’d say.”

“The two of you were ‘doing business’ the whole time?”

“Yeah, sure, if you wanna call it that.”

“She tell you much about her past?” His hand found his chin, and w
ith a cursory glance to the right, answered “something ‘bout her asshole daddy, her running away to Hollywood. Same old story. Gets better every time.” That was all I’d needed. “So, is she on the lam or something?”

“Maybe. I’m not there yet” I said.

“Clearly” his glass was nearing empty, as he turned to top himself up I looked through to the next room. There was an old wooden table with a chunky looking typewriter on top. Crumpled paper filled most of the floor space of the room, or at least what I could see from the doorway.

“That’s some filing system, Chinaski. Where are all the good ones?”

“Those?” He said, peering into the back room. “Those are rejection letters, I collect them.” He turned back to face me. “Are you done?” he asked, and I was. Chinaski was all wrong for the case; he was just a drunk hack one slip up from Skid Row. I doubted he wanted much of anything other than a drink, his words, and the occasional woman.

“I am. Here’s my number, get in touch if you hear anything.” I handed him a card, which he took and put in the pocket of his shorts without even looking at. “See ya round, Chinaski”
“Hopefully not” he said, shutting the door behind me.

Allans Review's

My interests involves comics and anime's. The following 5 reviews reflects that. The end goal is to cross fit two of my favourite characters in a one part story of them two fighting and becoming an alliance.

Battle Of Yardrat - This is a classic episode of Dragon Ball Z put together by Booziehand. If you have not seen a Dragon Ball Z episode then you have to read this review to understand the characters a little bit as  Booziehand has described Goku(the main character), his wife, and son very well.

As of any episode of Dragon Ball Z there is always drama between Goku and his wife Chi Chi who wants the best for her son Gohan and also security from her husband, and so in this episode written by  Booziehand , he has successfully included it. The excitement of his episode makes me want to continue reading as  Booziehand has explained details to a fine art that resembles the actual animation itself, you can almost see a TV screen in your mental eye and watch this story take place.

I will give this episode a 4/5, this could almost pass as an actual episode.

The Big News - Having watched Dragon Ball Z through my intermediate school years I found Vegeta quite a cool dude. Many people would talk about him due to his attitude, and that influenced alot of people in that age group.

TrunksGirlKiryn, the creator of this episode describes Vegeta's attitude through the eyes of Bulma, who is his wife. I must say but I did laugh hearing his view of vegeta, quite a hard stern man who doesnt want to give into any type of weaknesses, that includes his wife. You can almost feel the character of Vegeta when Bulma starts ponding on his arogance to accept anything. Quite funny. Though TrunksGirlKiryn kept my excitement hanging in wondering what is wrong with Vegeta when he was describing the story but not fully expanding on what was causing him problems.

I will give his story a 2/5, due to lack of expectation.

Superman Dark Times Resolve - Many people would and could imagine what Superman gets up to when he's finished a semi easy day patrolling the world. In this story written by thesentence we get almost a childs view of what Superman would be doing in his spare time.

thesentence described details of how superman could gain energy by eating mini suns, which is quite a good idea, seen as he wouldnt have to fly up to the sun to gather energy, why not eat little suns? This idea made me laugh but it is an idea, and a good one. thesentence stuck to the theme for fighting bad guys and seeking justice. Though I expected Superman to know more about a chinese underground fighter and with all his power, find him with ease. Though in this story it took him a bit of effort, including learning how to fight?

I will give this story a 2/5, it wasn't really how I expected Superman to be.

The End of Superman - Every Hero has an enemy. In this comic written by Arthur Kay we see that Luther who an enemy of Superman is devising a plan to psychologically turning mankind away from Superman by telling them logical things that make sense, but in the same way are deceiving.

It rather felt like a movie, or thought this was comic. The expectation was semi and I felt a little bit of excitement wondering what was going to happen to superman once Lex Luther was released from prison. This story makes you want to continue reading. I like the idea's Arthur Kay included, adding in emotions and expressions by the characters, making it as if we're the people asking question in this episode.

I will give this comic a 3/5, the story was okay, but there wasn't as much anticipation for the next scenes to come.

Idiot Brother - This is a brilliant comic of Thor and his brother Loki written by LokiTheGoddessofmischief. Here LokiTheGoddessofmischief  tells us a story of Thor's arrogance and obliviousness to someone who loves him.

Or though Loki in this story is determined to prove himself worthy of being a king, he also shows knowledge of his brother very well, for example, the look in his eyes when he replied to Volstagg's funny comment about Sif. Lokie knew what his brothers real intentions were, and i can almost picture the eye's of Loki stuck on his brother with envy and jealously. He finds it impossible for a man such as Thor to become king at such an immature state. But while thinking this he is interrupted by Thor in Loki's quite time. LokiTheGoddessofmischief perfectly describes each character and there behaviours in a manner that is just like the original story.

I will give this comic a 4/5, I could almost compare this to the actual movie and see it taking place!

Allans FanFic - Goku's new alliance

Have you ever wonder what it would be like for two superhero's in two different stories to be together and fighting each other? In this Fanfiction cross over we see this reality take place.

RATING: PG (Mild Violence)

Goku's new alliance by Allan Laumatia

There's a slight breeze in the air as Goku sits cross legged under a tree seeking out hidden powers in the universe that may seem like a threat to his world.

"Hmmm....", Goku sighs.

A rumble shakes Goku's stomach as he rub's it.

"Aaaah so hungry! Chi Chi!! Whens lunch ready? I’m starving!" Glancing over to his home...

"Oh be patient! You should be thankful I've made a start on it!"

"But Chi Chi! I've been waiting here for the last 2 hours! Common!"

The roof of the house almost lifts off as a plate came flying out hitting Goku's head making him fall sideways.

"This is my special recipe you know it takes me this long! Argh!!! ... Impatient man he is"

Goku, recovers and sits straight while rubbing his head.

"Owwwww hey that wasn’t very nice, that hurt!"

A quietness comes over Goku. Something clicks in his head, he felt something peculiar after the plate and his head had contact. Goku focuses on what seems to be an energy force from another world. He yells out to Gohan...

"Do you feel that Gohan!?"

"No dad? I don't feel anything…"

He shows interest as he sneaks outside to join his father.

Chi Chi notices Gohan isn’t doing his homework and steam rises from her head.

"Gohan, do your homework now, don’t you dare think about it! How many times do I have to repeat myself!?"

Gohan sighs... "Okay mum..." With his head down he goes back to his studying.

Goku continues to focus on this energy, it's getting stronger.

"Goku Lunch is ready!…"

"Wait Chi Chi! There's something... it doesn’t make sense…"

Chi Chi yells even louder. "Goku! Lunch is ready!!!!!!"

"Chi Chi just wait!!" Goku yells with a sound of seriousness.

"Oh that stupid man, he goes on about me taking ages now he doesn’t even want to eat?!  Grrrrr!!!"

Goku’s eyes widen as he focuses mentally on this energy. This creature suddenly appears on the other side of the planet.

"What on earth is that!?"  Goku asks himself. "He’s got undies on the outside of his pants!?"

Goku immediately teleports to its location. He is now standing behind this thing, wearing blue and red. It had an S on its chest and neatly combed hair.

"What are you; are you human?" Goku asks.

"I’m not a human, I’m Superman, who are you?"

"I’m Goku, how did you get here?"

"Ah well... This may sound strange, but in my world scientists created an invention that can let humans travel between worlds. As they didn’t want to risk a life, I decided to go first. I’m much stronger than an average human, so my body can handle a transfer from one world to another", replied Superman.

Goku looks at Superman with confusion.

"You, stronger than an average human huh? Hahaha what are you wearing? Your undies…. I can see them baahahahaha!"

A slight grin appears on Superman's face.

Goku walks closer to Superman and flicks the S on his chest, it's as hard as steel.

"Wow! How strong are you? I could feel your energy when you were traveling here, it was faint, it doesn’t seem very strong even where I'm standing."

"Well, you wouldn’t know until you try me, you don’t look very strong yourself…", Superman replies.

Goku laughs.

"Okay, how about we start off with a warm up, ill go easy on you", Goku asks.

Goku positions himself.

Superman stands his ground without moving...

"Hey! Shall we now?" Goku asks whilst he stretches.

Superman looks at Goku.

"Are you sure you want to? We don’t have to; I don’t want to hurt you", replies Superman.

Goku laughs, "you hurt me? Don’t be silly"

In a split second Superman is standing directly in front of Goku nose to nose.

Goku, surprised, didn’t realize how fast he is, he immediately jumps back into position as he prepares himself.

"Wow, you’re fast too, this should be fun",  Superman says.

Superman quickly runs towards Goku and lands a rock solid punch, he goes flying backwards hitting the ground hard.

"Right!Goku says. Almost immediately he transforms into a Super Saiyan.

Superman looks with amazement and confusion.

"How did you do that? You're golden!"

Goku instantly teleports to Superman and throws a kick. Superman flies backwards into a large tree knocking it down. Goku teleports to Superman and attempts a punch, Superman blocks and uses his red eye beam and blinds Goku.

Now Goku cant see properly as it hit him in the eye.

Superman uses this opportunity to grab the large broken tree to smash Goku, he goes flying at least 40 yards away.

Goku... now on his knees panting, looks at the ground with one eye.

"Man he's strong! Alright, time for Super Saiyan 3!"

Goku powers up, the ground shakes and stones begin floating.

"Wha… whaa… what is he doing now!" Superman asks while he watches this transformation.

"Your hair, you... you look totally different!"

"Alright, our warm up is over. Its time to fight!" Goku says.

Superman looks up at the sun.

"I'm gonna need all the energy I can get! Superman quickly flies skywards towards the sun.

Goku flew up to catch Superman and the fight began!

Punches and kicks flying about. Each fighter dodging and hitting one another with great power! As the fight continues Goku notices something.

"You’re disappearing Superman!?"

They both stop fighting and Superman looks at his hand.

"Oh no!" he says.

"My time here is almost up! I’m transferring back to my world!"

"Wait! You’ll be of great help to my world. Will you come back to fight with us one day?" Goku asks.

"I will, you have my word.Replies Superman .

And as soon as the fight began it ends, Superman vanishes.

Goku teleports back home.

"Chi Chi, im home, is lunch on the table?"

"No Goku! I forgot to add one thing!"

The End

Thank you for reading, feel free to critic honestly, any feed back is good!

Joanna Zhang's Reviewes

Forrest Gump: 10 Years Later

I don't like this story, the writing about Forrest Gump is nonsense to me.

First, this writing has a really bad structure. I was very confused when I read it. Also the writer changed the narrative mode from the first person to third person. There are grammar mistakes and wrong spellings as well.

I quiet like this story, it is short but very interesting. I laughed a lot while I was reading it.

The story is imaginative and thoughtful. The writer captured Forrest Gum's character very well. Especially I want to mention that the story is easy to understand for me as the writer has used simple English.Good grammar and good structure as well.

The Love of a Prophet

This story is imaginative and has a good structure, good mix of dialogue and narrative, but I don't like it's content.
The reason is that the writer has changed Jesus' divinity. Jesus loves Mary in a divinely way rather than a human love. The writer implied that Jesus had sex with Mary, that is very offensive to any christian.

Fireworks

It is a good story!

I have watched UP recently, I can see the characters through this story very much. I enjoyed the friendship between Russell and Carl's the writer has  represented. The dialogues are cute, convey the characters' true personal effectively. Simply short sentences made the readers easy to follow.

Boaz and Ruth

I am touched by this story. The book of Ruth has always been my favorite book from the Old Testament.

This story is beautifully written from the point of view of Ruth, her emotions are accurate and pure. I could totally relate to her character. The writer has paid attention to details, for example picturing Boaz as an older middle-aged man instead of a young guy. Many people has thought Boaz is a young man, but if you read the book carefully, you will know he should be an old man.

It is a true love story,I really like it.

James' Fanfic Reviews

As I'm intending to explore a noir/seedy underbelly of LA type theme (Bukowski's Henry Chinaski meets Chandler's Philip Marlowe) for my own fan fiction, I have employed Frank Miller's Sin City as the topic of my fanfic reviews.

Dwight's City
by Funkmaster21
Dwight goes to same bar he attends every night, and after a brief encounter with a waitress who he has dealt with before but never really noticed, leaves the bar unsatisfied. I like the way the author has attempted to create a little bit of back story as to how Dwight and Shellie got together in Miller's graphic novel The Big Fat Kill. I would assume this story occurs perhaps a week or two before the events in the aforementioned novel. The author has employed a more formal written style than Miller's, but this does not detract from the story. The bar and background characters are painted as rough and tumble as Miller himself would've done, and while the writing style is different, the imagery presented by Dwight's City fits well with the aesthetic of the original.

Who Do You Think I Am?
by Lil Scream Queen
This story follows Miho's experiences dealing with a stranger who intends to escort her back to his employer due to 'unfinished business'. It has no reference to any Sin City continuity. I did not particularly enjoy how this was written, it seemed overly simple, and Miho's thought pattern was fairly normal and predictable which seems uncharacteristic of a merciless killer. The story builds to an early climax as Miho and the other girls of Old-Town interrogate the stranger, torture and eventually kill him. Rather than winding down from there, the girls go home for a shower and then have difficulty sleeping through the night, during which Miho sneaks out and kills a couple of people. It all ends in a rather unspecific mess, where all the wrong parts of the story are elaborated upon. I'm not sure if it ended or the author gave up, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

Sin City: On the Run
by LorrCakies
An alternate ending to Miller's The Hard Goodbye. Rather than Marv meeting his demise in the electric chair, he is sprung from prison before his execution by a new character, Blondie, the younger sister of the twins in the original story. The author has done a pretty good job of writing Marv, however this narrative switches between that of Marv and Blondie, where Miller has never done this, the stories follow one character at a time. The language was very much Sin City, but it seems a little too wordy, and at times uses language and described things in ways that Marv would not be able to. There seems to be some trouble with saving Marv's life, as the author doesn't appear sure what to do from there. While Marv and Blondie leave town to escape the police, the story loses direction after a brief stop at Marv's childhood home and ends mid-conversation. I would've liked to see this author bring the story to an organic conclusion, and perhaps follow it up with a story about their next move.

Bloody Gutters: Sin City Shorts - This Job's a Favor
by "DeadAccount092"
This original story follows an unnamed gunman as he prepares to complete a hit. Over the course of the story, he reveals his personal stake in the job - saving the woman he loves. The author has done such a good job here, it could potentially pass as a draft by Miller himself. The pace is very quick, matching that of the Sin City graphic novels. The language used is typical of a Basin City resident. It created strong imagery, and I felt as though I was on the rooftop myself, looking down a sight at the target. In my opinion, the author of this story has a firm grasp of the hard-boiled/noir genre, as well as the attention to detail necessary to include the intricacies specific to Frank Miller's work.

 And So She Screamed
by LadyAsh5869
In an alternate storyline where Hartigan and Nancy are able to be together, Hartigan helps Nancy cope with the horrors of her past. Despite a rather obvious and grammatically flawed reference to the film adaptation, the author has aimed for, and nearly achieved, a similar style to Miller's in his story That Yellow Bastard. While the story doesn't really go anywhere, it provides a nice snapshot of an intimate moment between two lovers, Sin City style. Additionally, it feels like a realistic event that would occur between these characters. Miller's original story ended when Hartigan sacrificed himself so Nancy could escape the farm, which concluded one of Sin City's favourite love stories. This story comfortably reunites the two without having to provide a clause for how Hartigan survives, and as a fan of the characters, it's satisfying to consider an alternate storyline where they can live happily ever after, Sin City style.
